Gloomy Day Turned Nice

This morning and went out between downpours to search for a missing wedding ring. You can read the full story here.

It is very important to make mental notes and if possible to take pictures of what you were doing when you think you lost a ring or other piece of jewelry.  It will make a recovery much more possible.

If you were doing yard work, DO NOT throw away any of the weeds, grass, or other debris that you have collected. That will need to be searched also. Try to remember where you removed your gloves if you were wearing them. Did you wash your hands outside? Did you shake your hand to get water or dirt off of them?

The more information you have the chances of a recovery go up immensly.

Have a Great Day!!

Gloomy Day Turned Nice in Haddon Hts NJ

Bob contacted me through my website, asking if I could search for his lost ring. He had been doing yard work, and when he went to Loews for more supplies, he noticed that his titanium wedding ring was missing. We were both available this Saturday, weather permitting. We are expecting 4 days of heavy rain.

Saturday morning was gloomy, but the rain paused; we now have a fine mist. I met Bob at his house. He showed me his work area in the front of the house. He had planted some flowers and placed about 2 inches of mulch. If it is not here, it could be in his backyard, as he made several trips to his shed. I asked if he had searched his car, and he said yes. He also searched the parking lot at Loews.

I got started, and he returned to the house to tend to his 6-month-old & 2 large dogs. I did a quick check of both flower beds and noticed there were a lot of iron targets. This took all of 5 minutes. I dug a few, and they were old nails. So I need to slow down and make a much more thorough check.

About 10 minutes later, I got a signal under one of the bushes. Dug down about 3 inches, and there was his silver titanium ring. I took a few pictures and knocked on his door. Bob came out, and I asked him if I could search the backyard toward his shed. As he was answering and trying to figure out why it wasn’t here, because he was sure this was where it would be, I held up his ring, and when he finally noticed, the look on his face was priceless. I had asked him if he was in the dog house because he had lost his ring, he said no, but his wife was disappointed. She will be happy again.

Playing Ball Equals Lost Ring

We search More Than Beaches!

Katie called me after someone on FaceBook recommended me, thank you to whoever that was. She was in her backyard throwing a ball when she lost her engagement ring. She searched for days with no luck. Then she resorted to social media.

Friday was the day I could search, so we set up a date. Katie couldn’t be there but her mom would be. Katie describe to me over text messages where she was in the yard and in what direction she was throwing the ball.

I started near the middle of the tear and did a grid pattern in the north direction. I was getting a few deeper targets and just passed them by. About 20 minutes into the search I got a good signal in the range that small gold rings should be. I pulled back the ring and there was the ring I was looking for. It looked like it was stepped on and it was embedded in the mud, sideways.

When I showed Katie’s mom she couldn’t believe it. She said Katie would be so happy.

Lost Ring While Playing With The Dog

We search more than beaches!

Frank sent me an email asking if I could help him. While doing yard work he lost his platinum wedding band. He has worn it for 14 years. I sent him a message back stating I would help tomorrow morning as I was currently at the Phillies-Padres playoff game. Go Phillies!

Early the next morning I sent Frank an email letting him know to call me when he was available. He called and gave me his address. So I loaded my vehicle and headed over.

I arrived at his house, and the 1st thing I noticed was how nice the yard/grass looks. It was thick and easy to hide a ring. It was also well-decorated for Halloween. Frank was outside waiting for me. He took me to the different areas that he was working on yesterday. The last stop was where he felt his ring come off. He explained that he was throwing some of the yard debris into the woods. When he was done he shook off the dirt from his hands. At that moment he felt his ring come off. He searched for it without success. He even went out and bought an inexpensive metal detector to search. He mimicked the event while holding a quarter to see where it would land. I spotted the quarter while scanning the area with my eyes.

I grabbed my detector and started. There is a manhole cover in the area and a metal fence. But there were a lot of other metal signals in the area. The developers must have made the woods a dumping ground.  There were sticker bushes and vines all over making it difficult to swing the detector properly. After about 20 minutes and many targets, I get a nice signal. I can’t see anything so I get out my pinpointer. I move the leaves and grass and there is a platinum ring. I would have never been found without a metal detector because it was totally hidden.

Frank was elated that I found it in the area he searched many times. Hopefully, he can return the detector he bought. Unless you are an experienced detectorist, chances are you won’t be able to find a lost ring unless you are very lucky. You need to know how to set up a detector to find the type of metal or object you are looking for. You need to know what the detector is telling you when it makes a sound.

Frank found me by doing a Google search for how to find a lost ring. He was so happy that he didn’t give up and reached professional.

Property Markers Found in Audubon NJ

John emailed me asking if I could locate property markers. I said that I have in the past. We set up a search on Saturday morning. He sent me a copy of his survey that was done more than 30 years ago.

When I arrived we walked the property. The two in the front yard shouldn’t be an issue, but the two in the back yard will be much harder as there is a chain-link fence & metal poles in the area.

I got to work. The 2 front yard markers were found within 15 minutes. I did not find the two in the backyard. In the area of both markers are telephone poles running electric lines. The markers could have been removed or displaced. The fence was also troubling as I had to use my pinpointer to search.

John was very happy that I found two of the 4 markers.

Leprechaun Trying to Steal a Gold Ring In Collingswood NJ, Found by Dave Milsted

Michael called me during my Sunday morning run. He was outside yesterday doing yardwork, mulching, and playing with his 2 young daughters. When he finally went inside, Michael noticed his rose gold wedding ring was missing. He said he found my website and read the tip about searching at night with a flashlight. He gave that a try but didn’t have any success. I told him that I was halfway through my 6-mile run and would come over when I was finished.

I met Michael and he showed me the different areas he did work and played with his daughters. It was pretty much the whole yard. I started in the areas he mulched. He had removed the mulch and put it in a bag. In the 2 areas I searched, I found a couple of nails and a few other unknown metal objects.

Michael went to get the bag of mulch he removed. As he was in the garage I got a great signal in a thick patch of clover. I parted the clover and there it was a very nice rose gold ring. I believe the local leprechaun was trying to keep the gold ring, as it was well concealed. It would have been found without a metal detector  He could believe that I found it in 10 minutes. The look on his face was priceless. He also couldn’t believe that he has so much emotion over a ring. Sentimental feelings are a very powerful thing.

Michael found me through Facebook, from a successful recovery a few blocks away in Collingswood, a month or so ago. That was also a rose gold ring.

Making Snow Angels = Lost Ring…

I received a call from Katelyn. She told me that her husband lost his rose gold wedding ring in their yard yesterday, after we received 8 inches of new snow. They have been trying to melt some of the snow after having someone with a metal detector out yesterday with no luck.

I was at their house about 20 minutes later. Mike & Katelyn came out and showed me what happened. He had just got done making a snow angel and was flicking his hands trying to get the snow off, and away went his ring.

I turned on my machine and there was a ton of interference. A neighbor must be sending out radio waves to aliens. I tried everything to make the interference stop, no luck. I had MIke place a coin on the ground to make sure I would be able to hear the signal through the noise, and it works.

I started searching the area. I found the gas line and the water line. I had a few other signals that were under the frozen ground. Then I got a signal that moved when I tried to clear away the snow. SUCCESS! What a beautiful rose colored gold ring it was! It took about 15 minutes to find. Both Mike & Katelyn were so happy. They thought that they might have to wait until spring to find it.

Thank you to Karen & Lynda for recommending me on Facebook!

Early Christmas Gift in Barrington NJ, When Lost Wedding Ring is Found

My wife got a request for my services from a friend of hers from the gym. It seems that George takes care of several feral cat colonies. On Tuesday when he got home he noticed his wedding ring of 49 years was missing. He checked his gloves, car & trunk. No luck.

We made arrangements to meet Thursday, in the afternoon to start the search, We met and he showed me his routine. We emptied food bowls to make sure it was not mixed in with the chow. We checked the water bowls and supply box. Next, I used one of my detectors, a Minelab Equinox with a very small coil. There are a lot of metal items in the area. The ring was not found, off to stop 2.

At the 2nd stop, George again showed me his routine. We checked the bowls and the supply box, nothing. He said he did throw some trash in the nearby dumpster. My heart sank. We opened the dumpster lid and it had been emptied. As I was searching the area with my detector, I questioned George about the check of his car and the gloves he wore that day. He said I could check his car if I wanted to. He is currently wearing the gloves he used on Tuesday, and there is no ring in them.

I finished searching the area with the metal detector with no luck. I moved to George’s car. I looked in the back seat, nothing. I then went to look under the driver’s seat, and there was his white gold wedding ring. He couldn’t believe it was there after he had looked.

The smile on his face was awesome. He said that his wife told him that the ring wouldn’t be found. This upcoming year will be their 50th Anniversary. Christmas came a few days early for George!

Lost Wedding Band – Lost on the South Jersey Rugby Football Field in Cherry Hill Found By Dave Milsted

Chris sent me an email asking if I could help him. He lost his wedding band the night before while at rugby practice. I did a quick Google map search of the field, and it looked pretty barren. So I decided to walk the field before work. When I get there, the field was a solid grass carpet about 5 inches tall. It’s not going to be found by a quick walk.

There was a guy on the field with a human-powered push mower. I asked if his name was Chris. He looked at me with a concerned look, as I was in my work uniform, which makes me look like a police officer. He said yes, and I told him that he sent me a message that he lost a ring. There was relief on his face. He showed me the areas that he was in during practice, pretty much the whole field.

I told him that I wouldn’t get there until the weekend because of work and another recovery that I have today after work. He told me that his wife didn’t know he was at the practice, and he didn’t tell her that his ring was lost. They just celebrated their 4th anniversary a few days earlier.

I went to the beach that night to search for the other ring; I need to get into the water at low tide. There was a thunderstorm when I arrived and when the storm passed the ocean was angry. Large, powerful waves were kicking my butt. I couldn’t complete the search, so I will have to return.
I called Chris and told him that I would be at the field in an hour and 15 minutes if he wanted to meet me there. He said he couldn’t, that his inlaws were over, and he didn’t tell anyone that his ring was lost. He left the room when he saw that I was calling to answer the phone. I told him that I would spend about an hour there tonight, but it could be a several-day search because it is such a large field.

I knew where he placed his bag & drink. So I started there. No luck. So I started at 1 corner of the field and decided to search length-wise. I figured 1 down and back would take about an hour. There are a lot of targets. A lot of “can slaw”, cans that have been cut up by a lawnmower, leaving many aluminum pieces.

I got about ¾ of the way down my 1st path, and I got a good tone. I located the ring with my pinpointer. I was amazed I found it in about 30 minutes. My mom must have helped. I took a picture and sent it to Chris. He called me back about 10 minutes later, just as I was getting in my car as the skies opened up. He was in total shock. He said after he got the picture, he told his wife what happened. He said he was going to be in the dog house if I didn’t find the ring.

We met the next day to return the ring. Chris said he was allowed to go back to rugby practice.

Lost Ring in Bellmawr NJ While Doing Yardwork, FOUND!

Ernie sent me an email requesting my services. Sometime this morning while doing yard work he lost his tungsten wedding ring. I had some time this evening to search.

I met Ernie at his house and he showed me what he was doing earlier. He spread a lot of mulch and rinsed his hands a few times with a hose. The yard has a lot of thick zoysia grass.

I started my search and found a few small pieces of aluminum siding. After about 10 minutes Erie went into the house. 5 minutes later his wife pulled up as I was getting a signal. It was Ernie’s ring. I put my finger over my mouth to give the signal to be quiet. I went over to the front door and asked Ernie to come out because I had some more questions.

I pointed to behind some bushes asking if he was back there, his ring was on my finger. It took a while for him to realize that it was there. Another awesome look on his face. We took a few pictures and he said he would chat up my services on social media.

2nd successful recovery of the day!

Playing With A Toddler In The Backyard…

Miranda was referred to me after posting on Facebook that she lost her rings. She contacted me 2 days ago and our calendars synced up for an early Saturday morning search. Miranda explained that she had placed her engagement ring & wedding band in her back pocket. She forgot that they were there, and started playing with her 3-year-old son in the backyard.

The yard is a good size. She was in many spots, around the shed, sitting on the deck, and around the fort. The fort was the last stop on our tour, so that is where I began my search.

Miranda went to move her car as I got started because she was also around her SUV in the driveway. I started to search and 3 swings in, I found both rings. They were buried deep in the grass. Less than 1 minute of searching. They couldn’t be seen without separating the blades of grass. I really thought this was going to be a very long search. I took a few pictures before she returned.

When she came back like 3 minutes later I asked a few more questions. She was looking around the yard, as I was holding up her rings. It took a minute for her to notice them. The look on her face was priceless! She went from being depressed to being ecstatic. She couldn’t believe I had found them so fast!

Snow Shoveling Temporarily Claims Another Ring in Berlin NJ

Tiffany posted a desperate plea on the Winslow Talk Facebook page, asking if someone could help find her husband’s wedding ring. He lost it in the snow yesterday while shoveling. There were two people who referred me to help: Brian, a friend of mine, and Nicole, who has used my service in the past (a one-minute successful search http://www.metaldetectingman.me/successf…/sicklerville-nj/).

I made arrangements to look for the wedding band after work. It is a thin yellow gold wedding band. They have only been married for 3 months. After Korey lost the ring, he stopped shoveling. So there are about 8 inches of snow on the ground. She did mention that he heard something hit the house when he threw some snow off of the shovel.

That was a great piece of information. I only had to search for about 5 minutes before I uncovered the bright and shiny yellow gold ring. It was within 3 inches of the foundation for the house. Tiffany was shocked that it was found, let alone so fast.

Bad Tuesday in the Snow, Lost Keys

Koree was having a very bad day this past Tuesday. Eastern Pennsylvania was in the middle of a Nor’easter snow event. He also got into a fender bender and needed his vehicle towed. As he was waiting for the tow, he lost his only key for his car in 6+ inches of snow. While he waited the 3 hours for the tow service, it continued to snow at 1-2 inches per hour. Koree searched with no luck and gave up for the night. He came back to the parking lot the next day without finding his keys. That’s when he turned to the internet and found me. We made arrangements for me to search after work.

We met at the lot at 5 pm, it was already dark out, but the fresh snow cover provided enough light to search. I was afraid that the lot was paved and would have rebar, but it turned out to be a gravel lot. Koree showed me the area he thought he lost his keys.

I started detecting, getting signals frequently. This lot is along the Schuylkill River and an exercise trail. Obviously, a party area by the amount of beer bottle caps I was uncovering. There were also a lot of coins. Koree got excited at every signal I searched. He told me the dealer said it would cost $700 to replace his key and fob.

After 45 minutes of searching, I finally uncovered his key. He was so happy. His day just got a lot better. Due to COVID restrictions, no handshakes, fist bumps, or hugs were exchanged. Koree said he would spread the word about the Ring Finders!

Lost Hearing Aid in Bryn Mawr Pa, During Storm Cleanup

Frank was out in his back yard, cleaning up debris from the latest storm. While throwing some branches into a waste pile, one of the branches caught him on the right side of his head, sending his very expensive hearing aid into the garden somewhere. He searched the internet and found me.

I called Frank on the way home from work. He told me the story. I know how expensive they are because I wear a set of hearing aids. I wanted to find it as soon as possible so it wouldn’t be exposed to moisture.

Frank wasn’t there when I got there. His wife showed me the area and had the other hearing aid for me to see & hear what I was looking for. It has a small wire, and I thought it might be stuck in a bush somewhere. It barely made a sound on both of the detectors, I brought with me, even after trying multiple settings. I searched for like 40 minutes without finding it.

I took out my small handheld pinpointer and tested it with the other hearing aid, a much better result. So I got on my hands and knees and starting searching. We were looking in a fern patch. These plants can easily hide a hearing aid. Fifteen minutes more of searching resulted in uncovering the missing hearing aid.

Frank was relieved. A set of hearing aids can cost well over 6k. His wife thought that I was going to give up. I told her I don’t give up easily. Social distancing prevented us from shaking hands or receiving a bro hug. The smiles on their faces were awesome.

Ring Lost Years Ago Found by Dave Milsted in Abington PA

Walt called me back in September after seeing an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer that I was featured in on metal detecting. He asked if I could find a wedding band that was lost in his back yard several years ago. Our schedules didn’t align at the time. I gave Walt a call yesterday, and we were both available today, Saturday, November 23. He lives in Abington Pa.

I arrived about 20 minutes early, and Walt is already outside waiting for me. He showed me the area in the back yard. His wife, Sharon, was sitting on the porch and dropped her ring. They heard it hit the cement and then nothing more. The porch is surrounded by pachysandra.

There were a lot of metal items lost in the pachysandra. Several nails, s-hooks, an old tarnished silver bracelet, and bottle caps. After about 15 minutes I found the long lost white gold wedding band.

The look on Walt’s face was priceless. He had spent many hours combing through the plants looking for this ring. He said that their Wedding Anniversary was Nov 20th and that this Monday is Sharon’s birthday. I asked if he was going to wrap it up for a present. That is when he told me that she had died this past March. He was so happy that I called this week, as it has been a very sentimental week for him.

Walt is retired from the Philadelphia Fire Department. I love returning all lost items, but when I can help out a fellow 1st responder, that has a special place in my heart.

I Didn’t Tell My Husband

While on vacation, I received a call from a fellow Ring Finder, Steve Pacifico. He received a request to find a lost wedding ring, but he was at work. He knew I was at the shore, so he gave me the contact information.

Arrie lost her ring on the beach in Atlantic City. She got up off of the sand to go back to her room, started to brush off the sand from her legs and her ring went flying. She said she spent several hours on her hands and knees combing the sand looking for her ring. She didn’t tell her husband.

I told her that I would be there within 30 minutes. She met me on the beach and showed me the area. I started searching. I showed her everything I found, penny, bottle caps, pull tabs. After about 20 minutes I found what I was looking for.

I wanted to surprise her, so I dumped my scoop back in the hole, made it look like I was still looking for something. She looked away, so I picked up the ring and put it on my little finger. I went over and while pointing said could it be over that way? She said maybe. I pointed again, over there? She still didn’t see it. One last time I may be over there? This time she dropped to her knees and screamed. The lifeguards were all looking at us now.

She said the big diamond was given to her husband from his family. It has been in the family for a few generations. I told Arrie that she should go gamble since it was her lucky day. The smile on her face was priceless.

Teamwork paid off for Arrie. Atlantic City is heavily searched by people with metal detectors. By getting there quick we were able to put a smile on Arrie’s face!

The Metal Detector I just bought Won’t Find What I’m Looking For. Help!!

Received an email from Jonathan earlier in the week. He asked if I could help him learn the metal detector that he just bought. I asked what was going on. He said his wife lost a sentimental earring somewhere in their yard. He bought a detector and he tested it on the earring that she didn’t lose and it didn’t beep.

I asked what kind of earring it was. He said it was a stud earring. I told him that studs are one of the hardest things to find due to the small amount of metal. I told him that I could come out and look for him.

We decided on Saturday morning. He showed me the area that they believed it was in, it was rather large. I brought 2 machines, my Equinox 800 and my Tiger Shark. I tested on the earring that they had. Both machines registered. I searched with the Nox it came up as a 1 on the meter.

I started searching. There were a lot of targets. There was 1 area of tin foil slaw (an area of small pieces of tin foil the was probably run over with a lawn mower). That slaw came up as 1 on the Nox.

Just over an hour into the search I was at the swing set. I got a 1 on the Nox. Looked through the grass and saw the earring. The post was bent. I had placed the other earring in a plastic baggie so I would lose it and could place it on the ground to test it. I put the one I just found in it and started walking to my truck.

Jonathan came out of the house and said I guess you didn’t find it. I asked if there was anywhere else that she might have been. I asked if they went through her car? I said let me give you this one back. He started to put the bag in his pocket without looking at it.

I said I might have bent the post. so he looked at the bag. The look on his face when he saw 2 earrings in the bag was priceless. He might be trading in his metal detector for a better one.

81 Year-old man Lost 1959 Philadelphia Textile Institute Ring

I received an email from Joe last night. His 81-year-old father lost his 1959 Philadelphia Textiles Class Ring while attending an outside event last night. A few texts back & forth and we decided we would meet today around lunchtime.

The loss was in Adelphia NJ, I never heard of it, it is near Freehold. I met Joe at the location and he showed me what they did yesterday.

They had eaten dinner in one area and then walked back to the car where it was parked about 200-300 feet away in the grass. The entire event was in the thick grass. All of the tables and other landmarks were gone. We were going by where the grass and been beaten down.

I grabbed my gear and started where they sat in the grass for dinner. I did a very tight grid pattern. Found coins, small paint brushes, lots of bottle caps and other assorted junk. A little over 2 hours in, we were getting near where the tempory parking area was. When I hear “Oh my God”, from Joe. He was about 5 feet away from me and now on his knees. He saw a glimmer of gold in the grass & mud. With his hands, he dug out his dad’s ring. It had been pushed into the soft ground by being walked on or driven over.

He had walked over that spot probably 20 times between last night with a flashlight and today, just trying to find the ring. He was elated. He couldn’t stop laughing and smiling. He is the recovery story from Joe:

My 81 year old father and I attended a family picnic for a group we support that took place on the grounds of the Adelphia, NJ firehouse yesterday. We knew he had the ring as of about 4:30 pm, but when we got home at 6 pm it was not on his finger. He has lost some weight recently and knew it was loose, but still wanted to wear the college ring he has worn now for almost 60 years. We went back immediately and searched the area with flashlights since it was now after dark, to no avail. I came home and found Dave on TheRingFinders.com, went to his website and inquired. We texted back and forth and met up at the firehouse this afternoon. I went this morning myself and walked the area again in daylight for over an hour – nothing. Dave then arrived and meticulously searched everywhere my dad could have possibly dropped it, in a grid pattern over a grassy area of what I’d say was more than 1/4 of an acre – maybe 1/2 – no small feat. I walked a few feet in front of him still looking myself, and after about 2 hours, out of pure dumb luck, I saw it there, buried in the dirt where a tire or foot had apparently pushed it into the ground. Another 5 minutes and Dave would have been right over the spot himself. I could have so easily missed it – there was just a sliver showing. Had it not been for Dave’s meticulous searching, I would have given up hours earlier. He did a fantastic job and I really appreciate him coming out immediately to help me and my dad – who is ecstatic to have his sentimental ring back (which I will get resized before he wears it out again).

Leaves Claim More Keys…

I received an email from John, seems while he was raking leaves and dumping them down a ravine he lost his keys.

We met 2 days later. At the back of John’s yard is a steep ravine to a creek down below. While he was dumping some leaves he dropped the trash can. When he went to get the trash can he took a tumble down the hill. After he was done later in the day he noticed that his keys were gone. He thought that the best place to start is where he tumbled.

I got started and immediately got iron hits. There are all kinds of cement with rebar and pipes down this steep hill. This is going to be a tough hunt. I almost lost my footing several times. I turned the sensitivity way down to try to combat some of the signals that I was getting.

The leaves were piled up about 2 feet deep. After about 5 minutes I get my first non-iron hit. It was John’s keys. What a relief. Now to get back up the hill to give John back his keys.

He was very happy and stated that one of the keys would have cost over $200 to replace. Another successful recovery in very short time. I love my hobby!!!

Survey Markers Found in Cherry Hill NJ

Art sent me an email asking if I would search his yard in Cherry Hill. He needed his property markers found.

We agreed to meet after work a few days later. I take three different machines with me on each hunt. For this hunt, I chose my Minelab Explorer II. Ran it wide open with no discrimination. The whole search took less than 10 minutes; It took longer to pack my truck than it did for the search.

The markers were buried beneath 1 inch of dirt and grass. Art was a very happy man. He stated that he has been looking for them for a very long time. He didn’t want to have to have his property resurveyed.

Art didn’t want any pictures taken.

Buried Property Markers Found in Clayton NJ By Dave Milsted

20160928_105150
This is 1 of 2 property markers that were buried and found with a metal detector.

I received a call from Kevin, who said he found me on The Ring Finders website. He said that he didn’t lose any jewelry, but he has a strange request if I would accept. I said to go ahead with your story. He said about 20 years ago the township put in property markers on the border of his property. He is looking to purchase more land and needs to find them. The township told him that they were metal.

He has spent a while looking for them without any success.

I arrived at the agreed on time. Kevin took me to his property line. I set my CTx-3030 to all metal mode because I had no idea what range these markers would be. I searched and immediately got an large iron hit. It was a water pipe, time to turn down the sensitivity. No luck.

So we went to another location. I metal fence was in this area, and cause my detector to respond. I went outside of the search area and found a lot of trash.

We went back to the 1st location. I turned the sensitivity down even further. About 15 mins after returning to this area I found it. I had the tone & the numbers I need to find the other marker.

Back to the 2nd location we go. While Kevin was still marking the 1st marker I found the 2nd one. It was right up against the metal fence. It took less than an hour to find them.

Kevin was so happy. He didn’t want to be photographed.

So not only am I a treasure hunter, I can find property markers also…Facebooktwitter

Lost Wedding Ring Atlantic City

Newlywed Mishap, Lost Wedding Ring Found in Atlantic City Returned

Lost wedding ring found in Atlantic City Lost wedding ring found in Atlantic City

I received a missed call from a London exchange. I thought why is someone from England calling me? Must be telemarketers. It was followed by a frantic email. Alice & her husband were in Atlantic City on Monday. Alice left her rings at home, but Eric wore his. He did take off his ring when he wanted to go into the water. Alice put it on her finger. After a few hours in the heat they left the beach. That is when she noticed the Eric’s ring was gone.

I missed her call because I was in a lake metal detecting. I responded to her email as soon as I saw it & she called me right back. She explained where they were on the beach. Where they walked to. She told me that they saw someone detecting on the beach the night before and had him search the area that they had their blanket. No luck. She felt so bad that she lost it, she started searching on the internet and found me.

I made the trip to the shore. I noticed that a fellow recovery expert Ed Cropski stated he was going to do a recovery later in the day. I sent him a message and my hunch was right, Alice had called him also. Ed wanted me to keep him informed on my progress.

I got to the beach around 2 pm. It was fairly crowded. I started detecting the from the path to the beach toward the water, I traveled in a north and south grid pattern. One of my 1st finds was a 1cc syringe. I secured it and put it in a soda can then crushed the can. I continued on.

Near a shed that rented chairs and umbrellas was a pair of obviously homeless people that set up camp. Alice said that her & Eric were in that area the day before, shaking their towels before leaving the beach, but didn’t mention any homeless residence, but I wasn’t going to get close to them fearing that I might get slashed.

Did I say that the search area was next to a beach bar? 4 hours later and 150-200 bottle caps later I decided to give up for the day. The heat was getting to me and a finished all of the water that I brought.

Ed went down after dark and searched. He saw my grid pattern that I left in the sand & he expanded it. The same homeless people were still camped out. Ed searched for 3 hours with no luck.

I got up early the next day to try again. When I arrived the beach, on the far side of the beach bar was roped off for a Good Morning America Broadcast for Above & Beyond segment later in the day. Bonus was that the police removed all of the homeless people from the area.

I went to the area that I couldn’t get to the day before. With in 15 minutes I had a 14k gold wedding band in my hand. I sent Alice an email and she called me almost immediately. I told her that I found the rind and she started to cry. I should note that they have only been married for 5 months.

We made arrangements to meet up over the weekend to get Eric his ring band. Alice said they had a story to tell my wife & I.

We met at a local Starbucks. The look on Alice’s & Eric’s face when I showed them the ring was priceless. I love this hobby!! Alice proceeds to tell us that the story of the lost ring has gone national. Eric’s mom is a host on QVC. She posted to her Facebook page the story of the lost rind and this guy who was trying to find it. The page has close to 12,000 likes and close to 1000 comments.  (Story posted on FaceBook)

Here is a note from Alice & Eric:

Dear Dave,

Thank you so much for your amazing skill in finding Eric’s wedding ring. We are newlyweds and were so upset we lost it so soon. But we consoled ourselves on the day. I as Eric’s wife did not want to give up as I had felt so bad, so God blessed my hope through you. You were the answer to our prayer and we fell our covenant is even stronger now.

Lost For Several Years… August 15, 2015

2015-08-15 18.30.16 2015-08-15 23.33.21

Paul contacted me back in November 2012 about his wedding ring he lost. He thought that he lost it in his backyard while raking leaves.

Our schedules didn’t line up for many reasons. We both forgot about it.

I was checking/deleting my old emails when I came across the ones from Paul. I saw that I didn’t have an outcome listed for this missing ring. So I emailed Paul to see if it had been found. He said it is funny that you are asking about my ring. My wife & I were just discussing it the other night at dinner. It is still lost.

A few back & forth emails and we set a date & time the I would go over and search, Saturday August 15th.

I arrived and Paul & his son David were in the driveway replacing breaks on a car. Paul showed me the backyard and the area he thought it was lost. He then stated, if it is not here then its in the neighbors yard, because I was throwing items into their yard. I can get you permission to search there too.

I asked Paul about the ring. He said it was a plain wedding band. OK I thought I know what range o my detector that should register.

I started searching & noticed a lot of iron in the ground, not good. I searched the area Paul suggested and found pieces of metal garden dividers, pull tabs and other assorted junk. Not one good item. I decided to continue to search the rest of the yard.

About an hour into the search I finally got a good signal. It was above the range That it should be in. I dug about 2 inches down and found a very large gold ring with 2 turquoise stones in it. Well this isn’t the ring. because this isn’t a plain wedding band.

I searched the rest of the yard and found nothing else. I went to talk to Paul. I asked him, “you said a plain wedding band, correct?”

He said “oh it has 2 turquoise stones in it.”

“Like this one?” I said as I pulled the ring out of my pouch. He stood there with his mouth wide open. He couldn’t believe that I had found it. It was very large, I don’t know how he could have lost it without realizing it.

I went to the hose and cleaned it up a bit. We took some pictures and shared some stories. He said that he designed this ring and his wife’s matching ring. They have been married for 29 years. I apologized for dropping the ball and not finding this ring back in 2012.

I am just amazed by the different expressions on peoples faces when I am able to return things!!

A Night At The Ballgame (June 6, 2010)

evesham

Dave,
You must be an angel. An angel with a mean metal detector, that is. I lost my wedding ring at a local spring baseball game. We searched several times and could not find it. My husband told me don’t worry about it so much, but I was
devastated. During a frantic internet search, I found the Metal Detecting Man website and shot you an e-mail.

We met at the baseball field where I’d lost the ring. My heart dropped when I saw you walk in to the parking lot from the field in less than an hour. I thought, well, that’s it, he thinks it’s hopeless. I said, “No luck, eh? That’s OK, I am really grateful that you’re doing this.” I just hoped whoever found the ring was using it for good purposes (paying bills, etc.) or it was helping to keep a very lucky bunch of baby robins warm and safe this summer.

“Well, there was a lot of junk on that field,” you said, as you opened your hand to reveal my wedding ring.
And that, my friends, is when I hugged a total stranger several times and cried for joy.

Because of your generosity to help a stranger on your day off, I am wearing my wedding ring again. I think I will weld it to my finger. Even if you hadn’t found it, the world is a better place with you in it. I hope I can “pay it forward” to others in some way. You asked for nothing, but I insisted you accept the meager contents of my wallet that day. It is truly priceless what you’ve done.

I’m attaching a picture of the found wedding ring for your website. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
